Danny Torres was born on 26th May 1987 , our third child our only son.
He was a beautiful happy baby although he was seriously ill for two years with a horrible disease called lesmaniosis, a tropical disease caused by a mosquito (the sand fly) biting and infecting a dog and then a human. He had to undergo a long treatment and many painful tests, but he always came out smiling. He fought the odds and lived, many doctors thought he wouldn't, he was our hero. He was a good child, very special, very sweet and happy.
At the age of nine he started playing football for his club Pena Deportiva Santa Eulalia - Ibiza . It was his passion, he was a goal keeper, his trainers loved him so did his team, he was a very popular boy. He loved and supported Barcelona F.C. in a big way .He was kind, funny, caring and always happy and positive.
He loved his island ( Ibiza ) and he had two sisters Samantha who lives in America but he was still so close to her. He cried every time he left her.
Emma who was like his twin, they did everything together they adored each other. We really never believed we would loose him. Emma said "he loves me to much he wont die” that was in the hospital.
But Sadly on September 17th 2002 he was in a terrible accident, it was 18:40h raining and the roads on this island are not the best...He was rushed to the hospital and was in intensive care for two days, you have never seen so many people, hundreds of his friends with there families .But the early hours of the 19th September 2002 he passed away...
It was the end of our lives. His sister Samantha with her baby Christopher and Dean managed to get from L.A. to Ibiza around 10. That night so Samantha managed to stay 5 hours with him by side. Its just to painful. At his funeral hundreds turned up, there was not enough room in the church. I have never seen so many flowers, some friends passed out, many were incontrollable as was his sisters and of course my self his Mother and Father. I know my last words to Danny that evening were "I love you Danny”.
He was so beautiful inside and out, the light of our lives. He had so many friends and also a girlfriend Naomi, he was crazy about her. We want to thank all of you for helping us and Danny. So we hope that by doing a Danny Torres foundation , Danny's life can help others less fortunate than he was , all parents who had healthy normal children must realize how lucky they are. But are we aware of what many parents suffer when they have disabled children. Sadly in this small island of Ibiza there are aprox. 2000 children with practically no financial help. Danny was very kind to young and old and also backward children. Ivan who is 18 knew Danny .Ivan's brother played football in the same team as Danny. Danny was always helping him and was kind to him, he hated others to be mean to him. So after a lot of thought I have decided to do this...
